This trekking tour leads you to the well-known Yamdrok Lake outer circle and the off-the-beaten inner circle to discover the hidden beauty of Yamdrok Lake after visiting iconic places in Lhasa. During the trekking, you can walk along the shore of the shimmering Yamdrok Lake, immerse yourself into the various hues of the turquoise water, visit the small but authentic temples along the way, and explore the islands in the lake. In winter, you can also see migratory birds soaring above the lake in the background of snow-capped mountains. Itinerary Day by Day

Day1 Arrive in Lhasa

When you arrive in Lhasa, your tour guide will hold a board with your name on it at the exit to welcome you. A private car will take you to the reserved hotel. You may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/Bhamaputra River (the longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa River on their way to Lhasa.

Day2 Lhasa Sightseeing: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street (B)

Today, you’ll pay a visit to the famous Potala Palace, the world culture heritage. You can explore its audience halls, the jeweled and golden burial chortens (stupa tombs) of past Dalai Lamas, and tremendous number of Buddhist frescoes, thangkas, combinations of mandala, etc.

Then tourists will head to the holiest temple in Tibet, the Jokhang Temple, built during Songtsen Ganpo's reign by Princess Wencheng of Tang dynasty, 647 A.D. Here you can observe sincere pilgrims making prostration in front of Jokhang Temple. While entering inside the temple, you can see the holiest statue of Buddha. Around the monastery is the famous Barkhor Street, where you can do the kora with pilgrims and locals. And then we’ll go to explore the old market and you may have chance to see the traditional jewelry trading between people from different part of Tibet.

Day3 Lhasa Sightseeing: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery (B)

Today, you will visit two important monasteries in Lhasa, the Drepung and the Sera. Drepung Monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet, was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. Situated at the foot of Gebeiwoze Mountain, it was once home to more than 10,000 monks. Here you can see the biggest monastery kitchen inside and then pay a visit to the Buddhist Sculpture Carving Workshop near Drepung.

After having lunch, you’ll continue to visit the Sera Monastery, which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa's disciple Jamchen Choeje. The most interesting thing is to see monks debating in the courtyard at around 3-5 in the afternoon. Besides, you can also see the colorful Rock Painting of Buddha and the three sand Mandalas and then visit the Tibetan religious text printing house.

Optional:
After finishing the sightseeing, if time allows, you may go with tour guide to visit Tibetan Handicraft Art Center or Tibetan Traditional Medicine Center. Besides, you can also choose to upgrade your tour to enjoy Tibetan Culture Show in the evening (fr. 60USD).

Day4 Lhasa - Gangba Village (driving 113km, trekking 30km)

It takes about 2.5 hours to arrive at Dongla Village from Lhasa by car, and you will appreciate the roaring Yarlung Tsangpo River and get a panoramic view of Yamdrok Lake at Jiarela Mountain along the way.

Then you will trek from Dongla Villiage to Gangba Villiage along the shore of the turquoise Yamdrok Lake.

Day5 Trek from Gangba Village to Gamalin Prairie (trekking 38km)

Today you will take an off-the-beaten path and walk through a very scenic part of the Yamdrok trek. You will trek to Tasyu Village to appreciate the hidden beauty of Yamdrok Lake, you can also see migratory birds around the lake in winter and the floral rapeseed fields in summer. Then you will visit the small Tsayu Temple with only 4 monks.

Keep trekking ahead, you will find a small island temple close to the lakeshore before arriving at Zhangda Village. Setting off from Zhangda Village, after climbing over a small mountain pass, you will see the Gamalin Prairie stretching in front of you with the grazing yaks, sheep, and horses dotted on it.

Day6 Trek from Gamalin Prairie to Nyimalung Village (trekking 40km)

Today you will enter into the core part of Yamdrok Lake. The most uninhabited trekking route presents you with the most breathtaking views of Yamdrok Lake. You can visit the numerous islands scattered in Yamdrok Lake along the way. At Nyimalung Village, you can see Bajiu Tso, one of the legendary "three guardian" sub-lakes of Yamdrok Lake.

Day7 Trek from Nyimalung Village to Duoque Village (trekking 21km)

Immerse yourself into to the incredible beauty of Yamdrok Lake and enjoy the tranquility along the way. You can also enjoy the far view of Yamdrok Lake and Thapla Village, a sparsely-populated village located between Yamdrok Lake and snowy mountains.

Day8 Trek from Duoque Village to Dalong Town (trekking 39km)

Setting out from Duoque Village, you will detour from the road and twist through a plain grassland. Today you will visit Dalong Temple and appreciate its traditional wooden carvings.

Day9 Dalong Town - Dongba Village (driving 51km, trekking 44km)

You will go to Arza Township from Dalong Town by car with a stop by Nargaze County along the way to get yourself replenished. After arriving at Arza Township, you can visit the scenic Rongboduo Island before trekking the inner circle of Yamdrok Lake. You will also visit the other two of "three guardian" sub-lakes today: Kongmu Tso and Zhen Tso.

Day10 Trek from Dongba Village to Guoba Village (trekking 38km)

Yamdrok Lake will never let you down with its various and amazing views under different weather and time. Enjoy the special views of the inner circle along the way before arriving at Guoba Village.

Day11 Guoba Village - Lhasa (trekking 30km, driving 159km)

Today is the last trekking day. Don’t forget to enjoy the splendid sunrise of Yamdrok Lake and the far view of Gampala Mountain before starting your trekking. You need to trek 30km to Xueqing Village, the ending point of the whole Yamdrok Lake trek. Then you can get on the car waiting there and come back to Lhasa.

Day12 Depart from Lhasa (B)

The driver will take you to airport or train station.
