Know before Your Kathmandu to Lhasa Tour

  • 1. When is the best time to visit Tibet and Nepal?

Visiting Tibet and Nepal between the months of April and June and then during September and Oct is advised. July and August is the rainy season in Tibet, and only southeastern region rains little during this period.

  • 2. What are the required travel documents for a Kathmandu to Lhasa tour?

Tibet Travel Permit, which is obtained from the Tibet Tourism Bureau in Lhasa prior to your trip, as it takes around 20 days to process.
Alien's Travel Permit, for travel in the opened areas outside Lhasa, such as Shigatse Prefecture, where Mount Everest lies. This is also obtained from Lhasa, but will be applied for by your guide once you arrive.
Frontier Pass, which is also applied for by your guide when you arrive in Lhasa, is required for all travelers that are traveling in the areas of the Chinese border with India, Nepal, and Bhutan.
Chinese Group Visa, which enables you to get into Tibet from Nepal, which usually takes 3 business days to get.

  • 3. Shall we stay overnight at EBC during a Kathmandu to Lhasa tour?

We will visit Everest Base Camp on the way from Gyirong Town to Tingri, but we will not stay overnight there considering its high altitude and the sharp altitude increase between Gyirong Town (2700m) and EBC (5200m). You wil stay overnight in Tingri which has relatively lower altitude and much better accommodations.
