This 12 days China Tibet tour starts from Hong Kong and then move on to Shanghai before reaching the holy land Tibet. During this trip, you will explore the most dynamic metropolises of China to see a great contrast between the ancient and the past, the east with the west. Once you arrive in Tibet, the most important part of this journey, you will be amazed by the great cultural shock. The red and white Potala Palace standing on the hill at the center of Lhasa city, the sacred pilgrims praying at the front of the Jokhang Temple with travelers from all over the world…the REAL Tibet is just in front of you. To stay one night at Everest Base Camp to enjoy the best view of the world’s highest peak could also be a lifetime memory for you.

Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1 Arrive in Hong Kong

When you arrive in Hong Kong, our guide will meet you at the airport carrying a placard with your name. Once your luggage is collected, he will guide you to your hotel, where you can rest for the remainder of the day, or explore some of the sights around the hotel.

Day 2 Hong Kong Tour: Aberdeen Harbor, Repulse Bay, Victoria Peak

The first part of the day will be spent at the Aberdeen Harbor floating community. This floating village is well known around the world, and is famed for its seafood restaurants. You can hire a sampan to explore the harbor area and take a stroll along the popular Aberdeen Promenade, which is like a little slice of seaside England in Asia.

After lunch you will be taken to Repulse Bay, where you can spend time on a beautiful tropical beach, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is also the site of one of the most expensive residential areas in Hong Kong, although it is not clear why the name changed from Chonghom Bay, which was the name originally given to the area in 1841.

Later, as the sun sets, you will visit Victoria Peak, the highest point of the island of Hong Kong. The tram can take you all the way to the top, but for the adventurous, you can take the hiking trail up. The views for the peak across Hong Kong harbor are absolutely stunning, especially at sunset.

Day 3 Fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai and Visit the Bund

Today, you will take a morning flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai. Upon your arrival at Shanghai airport, your local guide will pick you up and send you to the hotel.

After having a rest at your hotel, you will visit the symbol of Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Bund. You will appreciate the great contrast between the modern skyscrapers in Pudong area with the historical buildings at the Bund.

Day 4 Shanghai Sightseeing: Shanghai Museum and Yu Garden

After breakfast, you will start your trip with Shanghai Museum, where you can have a better understanding about the local history and Chinese traditional culture and art.

Then, you are going to visit the fascinating Yu Garden, the original private residence of a senior Government administration in the Ming Dynasty. Neighboring to the Yu Garden, there is a lively market called Yuyuan Bazaar, where you can shop some specialties.

Day 5 Fly from Shanghai to Lhasa

Today is free for you until you take the flight from Shanghai to Lhasa.

Upon arrival, your tour guide will hold a board with your name on it at the exit to welcome you and take you to the reserved hotel. You may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/ Bhamaputra river (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa river on their way to Lhasa.

Day 6 Lhasa Sightseeing: Potala Place, Johkang Temple, and Barkor Street (B&D)

Today, you’ll pay a visit to the famous Potala Palace, the world culture heritage. You can explore its audience halls, the jeweled and Golden burial chortens (stupa Tombs) of past Dalai Lamas, and tremendous number of Buddhist frescoes, thangkas, combinations of mandala, etc.

Then tourists will head to the holiest temple in Tibet, the Johkang Temple, built during Songtsen Ganpo's reign by princess Wencheng of Tang dynasty, 647 A.D. Here you can observe sincere pilgrims making prostration in front of Jokhang Temple. While entering inside the temple, you can see the holiest statue of Buddha. Around the monastery is the famous Barkhor Street, where you can do the kora with pilgrims and locals. And then we’ll go to explore the old market and you may have chance to see the traditional jewelry trading between people from different part of Tibet.

Finally, we’ll taste Tibetan tea with locals in tea house and enjoy a welcome dinner at night.

Optional:
After finishing the sightseeing, if time allows, you may go with tour guide to visit Tibetan handicraft art or Tibetan Traditional Medicine center. Besides, you can also choose to upgrade your tour to enjoy Tibetan Culture Show in the evening (fr. 60USD).

Day 7 Lhasa Sightseeing: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery (B)

Today, you will visit two important monasteries in Lhasa, the Drepung and the Sera. Drepung Monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet, was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. Situated at the foot of Gebeiwoze Mountain, it was once home to more than 10000 monks. Here you can see the biggest monastery kitchen inside and then pay a visit to the Buddhist Sculpture Carving near Drepung.

After having lunch, you’ll continue to visit the Sera Monastery, which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa's disciple Jamchen Choeje. The most interesting thing is to see monks debating in the courtyard at around 3-5 in the afternoon. Besides, you can also see the colorful Rock Painting of Buddha and the three sand Mandalas and then visit the Tibetan religious text printing house.

Day 8 Lhasa-Shigatse via Gyantse (360km, B)

Today, we will drive from Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse. On the way, we’ll drive over the Gangbala Pass(4790 m) to view Yamdrok Lake and Mt. Naiqinkangsang. Besides, you can also appreciate Korola Glacier on the roadside. At Manak Dam Lake, tourists can hang pray flag at Simila Mountain Pass.

Then we’ll go to the heritage town Gyantse and explore its old street, Perklor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa. Here you can catch the far view of Gyangtse Fortress.

Later, we’ll arrive at Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. And tourists can visit traditional Barley Mill and view the landscape of Barley Field (in summer).

Day 9 Shigatse to EBC (350km, B)

In the morning, we will visit the home of Panchan Lama - Tashilunpo Monastery. It is largest monastery of the Gelug Sect in Rear Tibet, and the main stage where generations of Panchen Lamas carried out religious and political activities. After getting your Alien’s travel permit, we will leave Shigatse and then drive to Lhatse for lunch.

After that, we’ll drive over Tsola Pass(4600M), and Gyatsola Pass(5248M). At Kyawula Pass(5180m), tourists can view the panorama of Himalaya. Then we’ll drive along the new zigzag road to Everest Base Camp and get closer to Mt. Everest peak. You are lucky enough to catch the sunset of golden Everest peak if time and weather permits at the lodging area.

Stay overnight at Rongpuk Guest House.

Day 10 EBC to Shigatse (350km)

In the morning, you can catch the stunning sunrise of Everest Peak if weather permits at the lodging area and then pay a visit to Rongbu Monastery - the unique highest monastery with nuns and monks living together. You'll have the chance to take the closest picture of Mt. Everest at the base camp.

Finally, we will drive back to Shigatse.

Day 11 Shigatse to Lhasa(280km, B)

Today, we’ll follow Yalong Valley back to Lhasa. Standing on the platform, you can view the vast Yalong River bed. Finally we’ll drop you off at hotel in Lhasa.

Day 12 Depart from Lhasa (B)

The driver will take you to airport or train station.
