Pictures     Summary
.   .,,,,,,,,
Rongphu Monastery.  World's highest monastery.

.

Typical horse drawn carriage that will take you to the campsite.  Costs 60Y (one way).

.
Scenery while trekking towards the basecamp.  You can trek 2 routes, 1) the horse carriage route, not as scenic but an hour faster or 2)cut through the middle (3hrs).

.

Rare sighting of a marmot on the way to EBC.

.

Basecamp in sight, phew finally!

.

Mt Everest Basecamp.

.

You can camp at the EBC for free or stay in tent hotel for 40-60Y.

It is very cold at night, even in the summer.  You will stay here overnight.

Yaks near the campsite.

Trying to catch a glimpse of the peak at sunrise.

Finally the clouds clear up and the peak is visible.  This is the pivotal moment you have been waiting for.  Mount Everest at Sunrise.  A remarkable view.

You will leave EBC and spend the night at Shigatse.  The following morning you will leave for Lhasa, Mt Kailash, or Nam Tso Lake.  If you are going back to Lhasa, you will arrive around 3-4pm.

Keep an eye out of eagles and make sure you tell your driver to stop so you can take pictures.  You have the option of visiting the Hot Springs as well, however the site is very touristy and its inside a building.  The hot springs run through a building and fill up a swimming pool in which you can bathe in.  Costs about 50Y.

Recommendations:

-Staying 2 nights at EBC.
- Visiting Nam-Tso Lake
- Bring Music CD's/Tapes, or the driver will play traditional Tibetan music for the entire trip, which can be a daunting experience.
- Bring a pillow for your bum, as the ride is bumpy.
- Take Toilet paper with you as well.
