Advantages of Adding More Trains to Tibet in This Summer

Thanks to these additional trains, summer travelers to Tibet will find Lhasa far more accessible. Firstly, there will be a wider range of train options, so you will have more chances to find a suitable departure time. This significantly enhances the flexibility of your travel itinerary.

In addition, passengers who want to experience the breathtaking views along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway will be especially pleased, whether they prefer morning departures for full daylight viewing of the landscapes, or evening departures that allow them to rest onboard and wake up to breathtaking views of the Tibetan Plateau.

Lastly, more trains mean more seats, which helps reduce overcrowding—in the past, the high demand during summer often led to packed trains, making the journey less comfortable. But with more trains in operation this summer, the passenger load is more evenly distributed, ensuring a more pleasant and roomy travel experience. You'll have more space to stretch your legs, store your luggage, and enjoy the panoramic views without feeling cramped.

Tips for Taking the Qinghai-Tibet Railway This Summer

#1 Secure Your Tickets in Advance

While the increased train services provide more options, the peak summer season still sees exceptionally high passenger volumes. Thus, it is crucial for tourists to pay close attention to ticket information.

As foreign tourists need to apply for a Tibet Travel Permit and can only enter Tibet as part of an organized tour, it is advisable to contact a local, qualified travel agency as early as possible. They can help you with both the permit application and ticket booking.

#2 Mind the Train Schedule and Arrive Early

With multiple trains being added, it is easy to get confused about the schedules. Make sure to double-check the train number, departure time, and boarding station.

During the summer travel rush, trains are often crowded and it may take longer to complete security checks and ticket inspections. To avoid stress, try to arrive at the station at least two hours before your train leaves. This will give you enough time to deal with any unforeseen situations, such as long queues at security checks or difficulty finding your boarding platform.

#3 Prepare Essential Items

The weather in Tibet can change quickly even in summer. During the day, it can be warm—up to 25°C—but at night, temperatures can drop to around -10°C. Therefore, it's smart to bring warm layers like sweaters, down jackets, and thermal underwear.

Meanwhile, sun protection is essential due to the high altitude and strong sunlight in Tibet. Make sure you pack sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-factor sunscreen to protect your eyes and skin from the intense UV rays.

Another thing to keep in mind is getting ready for altitude sickness. Some travelers may feel symptoms like headaches, dizziness, shortness of breath, or nausea.

You can bring anti-altitude sickness medications such as Rhodiola rosea with you. Remember to avoid strenuous exercise immediately upon arrival in Tibet, drink plenty of water, and get enough rest to help your body adjust to the high altitude.

Conclusion

The additional trains to Tibet for the 2025 summer season make exploring the region's wonders more accessible than ever. With enhanced scheduling flexibility and Tibet Vista's guaranteed soft-sleeper tickets, travelers can enjoy both comfort and convenience throughout their journey. So pack your bags, and get ready to experience Tibet at its summer best!
