Is there an age limit for trekking in Nepal?

It’s NOT recommended to take very young child on family treks in Nepal as they may face a number of difficulties. It can prove to be much harder for young children to acclimatise and they might not be able to endure the high altitudes and harsh climates.

There’s no actual age restriction when it comes to taking children on a trek in Nepal. It’s essentially down to the discretion of the family themselves and whether they think the child will be able to cope with the conditions.

Children of young ages can be carried and protected on treks but slightly older children (from ages five to nine, for example) will likely be too old to be carried if necessary but also may struggle to walk long distances themselves.

What to Pack for Trekking with Kids in Nepal

When planning a trek in Nepal with kids, there’s a number of things you need to remember to pack. Depending on the agreement with your porter, you may only have a limited amount of stuff that you can bring so it’s important to check before you set off.

You need to ensure you have excellent quality clothing for everything you bring. Thermal tops, trousers, waterproof outwear as well as insulating underwear is a good idea. It’s also advised to bring an extra pair of everything to put in your bags that the porter will carry.

Ensure you have all necessary items such as toothbrush, sun cream, face wipes, first aid kit, snacks, insect repellent as well as plenty of bottled water.
