This route is specially designed for those who hope to experience the exotic Tibetan life and appreciate the awe-inspiring Mt. Everest with their beloved family members. After visiting Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Ganden Monastery, you will be escorted to Tibetan family in Trubshi Village to experience the authentic life of family on “the Roof of the World”. Then, escorted by our experienced and considerate Tibetan guide, you will head to EBC via Gyantse and Shigatse. It takes you 3 days to arrive at EBC from Lhasa so you and your family members can have enough time to appreciate the breathtaking scenery along the way and acclimatize to the altitude change.

Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa

When you arrive in Lhasa, your tour guide will hold a board with your name on it at the exit to welcome you. A private car will take you to the reserved hotel. You may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/Bhamaputra River (the longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa River on the way from airport to Lhasa. Then, you can take a good rest at hotel to acclimatize to Tibetan plateau environment.

Tip: Our Tibetan guide will assist you to take care of the kids and the elderly, please pay close attention to their healthy conditions throughout your trip in Tibet.

Day 2: Lhasa Day Tour (B)

Today, you’ll pay a visit to the famous Potala Palace, the world culture heritage and the winter palace of Dalai Lama. You can explore its audience halls, the jeweled and golden burial chortens (stupa tombs) of past Dalai Lamas, meditation cave of the 33rd Great King of Tibet, and tremendous number of Buddhist frescoes, thangkas, combinations of mandala, etc.

Then you will head to the holiest temple in Tibet, the Jokhang Temple, built during Songtsen Ganpo's reign by Princess Wencheng of Tang dynasty, 647 A.D. Here you can observe sincere pilgrims making prostration in front of Jokhang Temple. While entering inside the temple, you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. On the top of Jokhang Temple, you can enjoy the panorama of old Lhasa City and great vista of Potala Palace.

Then you can do the kora with pilgrims and locals by circling the Barkhor Street around the temple, buy some souvenirs, and taste sweet tea and local snacks in local tea house. Later, you can take your family to explore farm products like yak butter in Tromzikhang, the famous farm produce market.

Day 3: Lhasa to Ganden Monastery and Trubshi Village (60km, B)

In the morning, you will visit Ganden Monastery about about 1.5 hours’ driving away from Lhasa. Ganden Monastery is situated on the Wangpori Mountain and is one of the “Great Three” Gelugpa monasteries founded by the Great Tsongkhapa in 1409. You can go for Lingkor (kora/circuit) around the monastery, visit the Great Tsongkapa’s meditation cave, and appreciate the beautiful view of Lhasa Valley.

Then walk about 15 minutes to Trubshi Village (3400m) and visit Tibetan Family there. You can communicate with the family members and take part in their daily homework like cooking Tibetan Food.

Day 4: Lhasa to Gyantse (263km, B)

Today you will head for Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake. You can have panoramic view of the turquoise Yamdrok Lake and the snow-capped Mt. Nojin Kangtsang (7191m) at Gangbala Pass (4790m), and have close view of the lake which is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet later.

After having lunch at Nagarze, you will visit the Karola Glacier at the roadside to appreciate the massive icy glacier and the white Tibetan stupas around it. When arriving at Simila Mountain Pass, you can hang auspicious prayer flags on the mountain pass and view Manak Dam Lake.

Finally you will arrive in the historical Gyantse Town, you can visit Pelkor Monastery and appreciate the Nepali-style Kumbum Stupa, enjoy the spectacular vista of Gyantse Fortress, and tour the Tsulaklakang Monastery right beside.

Day 5: Gyantse to Shigatse (94km, B)

In the morning, you will visit the historic Gyantse Fortress. Climbing to the top of the awe-inspiring fortress, you can appreciate the panorama of Gyantse Town and Pelkor Monastery.

Then, head to Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse. Founded in 1447 by the 1st Dalai Lama, Tashilunpo Monastery remains the traditional throne of the Panchen Lamas. You can see the world’s highest Future Buddha statue and get an insight of the glorious history of Tibetan Buddhism there. Later you will visit Tsampa Mill and see how Tsampa is made in the traditional way.

Stay overnight in Shigatse.

Day 6: Shigatse to EBC (340km, B)

On the way to EBC, you will pass three famous mountain passes, Tsola Pass (4600m), Gyatsola Pass (4528m), and Gawu La Pass (5198m). At the viewing platform of Gawu La Pass, you can enjoy the stunning view of the world’s top 4 highest peaks along Himalayan Range, namely, Mt. Everest (8844m), Cho Oyo (8201m), Lhotse (8516m), and Makalu (8463m).

Then you will visit Rongbuk Monastry, the highest Buddhist site in the world and trek 4km to Everest Base Camp (5200m) to get a closer view of Mt. Everest.

Tips: Please walk slowly and do not exert yourself to prevent acute altitude sickness. Make sure to wear enough clothes since the temperature at EBC can be very low in the morning and night.

Stay overnight in Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse.

Day 7: EBC to Shigatse (340km)

In the morning, you can catch the stunning sunrise of Everest Peak if weather permits at the lodging area. Then take the car ride back to Shigatse.

Tips: We can also arrange the tour to Nepal from EBC if you prefer to visit Kathmandu, Nepal.

Day 8: Shigatse to Lhasa (280km, B)

Travel back to Lhasa along the Yarlung Valley. You can stand on the viewing platform and appreciate the vast Yarlung River bed. At last, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Lhasa.

Day 9: Depart from Lhasa (B)

The guide will pick you up from your hotel, transfer you to Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station, and help you get on board.
