After arriving in Paro by flight, you will get greeted and transferred to Thimphu. On the next day, you will set out to explore the highlight of Thimphu, including National Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong, National Museum. Then you will travel to Punakha via Dochu La Pass, and then visit the noted Punakha Dzong. Another day tour in Punakha will let you see different sides of this city, as you visit the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten and Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery. In the end, you will drive back to Paro from Punakha for your flight home or your next destination.

Itinerary Day by Day

Day1 Arrival in Paro

When you arrive in Paro International Airport, your tour guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Thimphu. It takes about 2 hours to reach Thimphu. The rest of the day is for you to take a rest in the hotel or stroll around.

Stay overnight in Thimphu.

Day2 Thimphu Tour: National Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong, National Museum

Today, you will start your trip from the National Memorial Chorten, which is also known as Thimphu Chorten. It is quite a famous attraction in Thimphu and one of the most prominent religious structures in Bhutan.

Then you will head to see the national treasure Tashichho Dzong, a Buddhist monastery and fortress first constructed in 1216 A.D. It is an impressively large structure, surrounded by well-kept lawns and beautiful gardens.

As you travel back to your hotel, you will also pay a visit to the National Museum for Zorig Chusum. The museum gives courses for students to learn the traditional arts of Bhutan.

Stay overnight in Thimphu.

Day3 Thimphu to Punakha: Dochu La Pass, Punakha Dzong, Chimi Lhakhang

In the morning, you will drive to Punakha from Thimphu. On the road, you will pass Dochu La Pass (3100m), where you can see the 108 memorial chortens. Known as "Druk Wangyal Chortens", these chortens have been built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother.

Then you will visit the famous Punakha Dzong, which is also known as Pungtang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang. It is constructed by Ngawang Namgyal in 1637 and it the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan.

After that, you will head to indulge in a walking expedition to Chimi Lhakhang. The walk will take you through verdant paddy fields and serene nature.

Stay overnight in Punakha.

Day4 Punakha Tour: Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery

After breakfast, you will start a 2-hour trek to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, which is a classic example of gorgeous traditions and architecture of Asian country, standing on the hill above the Punakha valley. During the trek, you will enjoy pass through paddy fields and see rich plantations sprawling across Mo Chhu Rivers.

Then you will visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery, perched on a tranquillizing location amidst pine trees. The nunnery is a large temple complex contains a learning and meditation center for the nuns, and it also provides them other trainings such as embroidery, tailoring, statue making, and the famous thangka painting.

Stay overnight in Punakha.

Day5 Punakha to Paro: Ta Dzong

Today, you will drive from Punakha to Paro. Upon your arrival, you will pay a visit to the Ta Dzong, which was built as Watchtower and now it houses National Museum. The museum has a collection of Thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons and armor, household objects and a rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts.

Day6 Departure from Paro

Today, the guide will take you to the airport, then you can take your flight home or your next destination.
