An "Attractive" Highway from Lhasa to Nyingchi Will Be Open
For tourists who want to enjoy a road trip in Tibet, there is a good news that a new scenic highway from Lhasa to Nyinchi will be put in use soon. This new line is called Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade Highway, which starts from Liuwu New District of Lhasa, ends at Bayi Town of Nyingchi City, running a total length of 409.2 kilometers.
The project of this highway began in May, 2013. Sections from Lhasa to Maizhokunggar County and Gongbo'gyamda to Bayi Town have been put into operation after more than two years' construction. Once the whole line is completed, the driving time from Lhasa to Nyingchi will be reduced to around 5 hours from 8 hours.

The Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade Highway in Tibet is totally “free”, for no tolls will be charged. Aslo many ramps on the way will be open. As the longest high-grade highway in Tibet, the route is planned to feature 4 lanes in two ways, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade HighwayThe Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade Highway is a scenic route crossing a plenty of stunning natural scenery on the way.The route will pass through the 5000-long Mila Mountain Pass, and then goes down to the southern area of Tibet along the beautiful Niyang River, and finally reaches Nyingchi.
Beautiful scenery along Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade HighwaySome of the gorgeous sites on the way are: Niyang River, one of the most beautiful rivers in Tibet, a mother river in Gongbu Area, meaning Goddess’ Tears in Tibetan language; Bagaxue Viewing Deck, a place where you can take in everything of Bagaxue wetland, including the famous golden pond; Birthplace of Songtsen Gampo, where a memorial archway stands besides the highway, to commemorate the great Tibetan Emperor Songtsen Gampo; Guru Rinpoche’s Cave, a medication place where the master Guru Rinpoche used to meditate here.
